It's Over

Updated: Jan 26

The silence of the evening was broken, when I heard my sister's cry. I had been washing the dishes at the sink, when one of them fell from my hand, to the ground and shattered into countless pieces, at the sound of her cry. Almost instinctively, I clutched the locket I was wearing, around my neck, close to my chest, as if it were my heart that had broken into innumerable pieces and I let out a gasp. A tear escaped my eye unconsciously. My little sister and I grew up as orphans, our parents having passed away, when we were very young. Ever since then, I have been her guardian and have tried to keep her happy in every way possible. I have tried to fulfil all her wishes and she, being a mature kid, since the very beginning, has never asked for more than I could afford. I earn my living, by serving as a governess, to a rich family, in the next town, for six hours. Presently, I was staring upstairs, to where her room was, waiting anxiously for my sister to shout back, "It's over". Instead, there came another piercing cry. I rushed up the stairs and threw open the door, only to find, a large pool of blood, inches away from where I stood. On further venturing into the room, I was shocked, to find my little sister, lying curled up on the floor, next to the bed, coughing up more blood and crying simultaneously. It seemed to me, that things had got worse. I had been preparing myself, for this day, for long and so when the doctor finally picked up my call, after three rings, I spoke calmly and said, "Margo's losing a lot of blood. Please visit soon. ".
